Microfiber is the name given to a type of reusable multi-purpose cleaning cloth derived from microfiber, including a microfiber wash mitt. Microfiber is any fiber that is smaller than the diameter of a silk thread and is commonly composed of a polyester/nylon mix. It is a synthetic material.

Before using a microfiber car drying cloth to dry your automobile (or chamois), make sure all dirt and debris have been removed from the surface. Even if there is only one grain of dust or tiny stone, sliding a towel over it will scratch the paintwork.

The density of a microfiber towel is one of the most significant differences between it and a chamois. The more moisture a microfiber towel can absorb, the greater its density and the more expensive it will be. Microfiber cloths are measured in grams per square meter (GSM). The lower the GSM, the less dense the towel, and the less moisture it can absorb.

A good-quality microfiber car drying towel should have a minimum GSM of 250. The best towels will have a GSM of 350 or more.
